Design Origins

The website for the RAH ICU moved from under the umbrella of the University of Adelaide in 2009, coinciding with the formation of the SA Intensive Care Association, formed to foster and manage the numerous training courses run from within the unit.

The colour theme for the site was not chosen in recognition of the "Crows" football club, as suggested by some ardent supporters, but was is in fact chosen in honour of Dr Tub Worthley. Tub was one of the pioneers of intensive care in Australia, an outstanding teacher and was pivotal in establishing the fellowship course which still carries his name.

One evening, during the registrar handover round, one bright young registrar was over-heard suggesting an alternative plan of management, whereby Tub was heard to say,

"listen, sonny, so long as the air goes in-and-out, the blood goes round-and-around, and the wee comes out ...
don't you think about too much else ..."

Thus, we are left with sky-blue for air, red for blood and yellow for urine.
