Registration Form (PDF)
In 1983 an in-house Royal Adelaide Hospital course was organised to prepare four candidates for the final examination in Intensive Care Medicine (Faculty of Anaesthetists, RACS). Following the success of this course, a National course was suggested, and in April 1985 the first Australian Short Course on Intensive Care Medicine was held at the RAH. The function of the course was largely to aid potential candidates for the Faculty of Anaesthetists RACS examination in Intensive Care Medicine. The sessions emulated the examination process, (e.g. a trial 'clinical' with short cases and long cases, ECGs and CXRs) and were intensely interactive.
The next course on Intensive Care Medicine will be held on 23-25th Feb 2011, at the Royal Adelaide Hospital, Queen Elizabeth Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre in South Australia.
The course is specifically aimed at trainees sitting for the CICM Fellowship Examination and is strictly limited to those planning to sit the exam in 2011. The course runs for 3 days and will include tutorials on the written examination, vivas and hot cases, as well as running mock examinations. Cost: $1000
Positions on the course are strictly limited and will be allocated on a first-come-first-served basis from Monday 1 November 2010. (N.B. applications for the course will not be accepted before 1 November).
A significant degree of exam preparation by candidates is assumed prior to attending the course. In particular candidates will only be considered for the course if they have already begun preparation for the clinical exam. This must be attested to by the candidate’s Supervisor of Training (SOT) before the candidate’s nomination for the course will be registered.
Please note that payment MUST be made by Friday 10 December 2010, or that person’s position will be offered to another applicant. Once payment has been made, cancellations on or prior to 21 January 2011 will be refunded at a rate of 50%. Cancellations after 21 January 2011 will not be refunded.
Accommodation will be available at all major hotels. Venues and rates will be posted to those who wish to register. Budget accommodation will also be available at the RAH at a nominal cost.
General information about the course can be obtained from Nick Edwards.
